2017 Call for Award Nominations

Phi Beta Delta: The Honor Society for International Scholars

     Phi Beta Delta is pleased to invite nominations from all its chapters for the following awards:

  1. One faculty award, the Yvonne Captain Outstanding Faculty Award, for outstanding contribution to the field of international education. The awardee will receive $US500.00, plus waiver of conference registration fee to attend the 2017 International Conference. The Faculty nominees must be active members of Phi Beta Delta.

  2. One staff award, the Edward S. Blankenship Outstanding Staff Award Non-Faculty or Faculty/Administrator), for outstanding leadership and support of the development and activities of a local chapter of Phi Beta Delta. The awardee will receive $US500.00, plus waiver of conference registration fee to attend the 2017 International Conference, The Non-Faculty or Faculty/Administrator nominees must be active members of Phi Beta Delta.

  3. One domestic student award, the Marian Beane/Charles Gliozzo Domestic Student Award for International Achievement, for a student (undergraduate or graduate) who is a citizen or permanent resident. The awardee will receive $US500.00, plus waiver of conference registration fee to attend the 2017 International Conference, The domestic student nominees must be active members of Phi Beta Delta who have demonstrated great interest and involvement in international activities and superior scholastic achievement. To be eligible, students may not have graduated prior to the spring term of 2017.

  4. One international student award, the David Merchant International Student Award for Achievement, for an international student (i.e., one studying as a visa student at the institution where the nominating chapter is located). The awardee will receive $US500.00, plus waiver of conference registration fee to attend the 2017 International Conference. The international student nominees must be active members of Phi Beta Delta who have demonstrated great interest and involvement in international activities and superior scholastic achievement. To be eligible, students may not have graduated prior to the spring term of 2017.

  5. One chapter award, The Eileen Evans Outstanding Chapter Award for demonstration of outstanding chapter growth, development, and activities; expanded outreach within and beyond the academic community; service to Phi Beta Delta. The Outstanding Chapter will receive US$250.00 and a plaque to recognize their achievement if one of their members attends the annual conference for that year. The award money is to be used by the chapter for development and chapter events.

Chapters may submit two student nominations—one for a domestic student and one for a student from outside of the United States; however, only one nomination may be submitted for the Faculty Award and only one nomination for the Staff Award.


Award recipients are expected to attend the awards ceremony held during the International Conference, where the presentation of awards will be made.

Please complete the Nomination form online or print it and complete it. This form is in PDF format for easy printing. You should use a separate form for each nominee and also attach a letter of nomination summarizing the qualifications of the nominee for the award (as many as three additional letters of recommendation may be included). In addition, a curriculum vita and other supporting documents should accompany the nomination for the faculty award.

The Awards Committee will review all nominations submitted and will inform the award winners by April 20, 2017.

The Eileen M. Evans Outstanding Chapter Award

Demonstration of outstanding chapter growth, development, and activities; expanded outreach within and beyond the academic community; service to Phi Beta Delta. The Outstanding Chapter will receive US$250.00 and a plaque to recognize their achievement if one of their members attends the annual conference for that year. The award money is to be used by the chapter for development and chapter events.

To apply, send a cover letter listing the chapter achievements for the 2016-17 year, along with the Chapter report:

The regional VPs and the Senior International VP will review the submitted reports and will select the Outstanding Chapter. The selected outstanding chapter will be notified by April 30, 2017.



In addition to their being considered for the Eileen Evans Outstanding Chapter award, the chapter reports help the Vice President of your region provide an updated summary report on the region’s chapter activities at the June Board of Directors' meeting.
